WHO IS THIS BOOK FOR?

This isn’t a how-to manual or a one-size-fits-all solution. It’s a collection of real-life stories, reflections, and reminders that different doesn’t mean broken. It means your brain works differently, and that difference can be a strength.

Kids and teens who feel different, behind, or misunderstood

Parents and caregivers supporting a child with learning differences

Educators, advocates, and mentors who want to better support all learners

Adults who grew up feeling “not enough” and are ready to reframe their story

Embracing Your Different Ability   is Written For...

®

I wrote Embracing Your Different Ability® because I don’t want any child to feel dumb, stupid, or alone like I did before my diagnosis.

Growing up with a learning disability shaped how I saw myself, how I learned, and how I moved through the world. This book is the one I wish I had when I was younger. It’s here to remind readers that their challenges don’t define them, but their resilience, creativity, and voice absolutely do.

Whether you’re reading this for yourself, your child, or someone you support, my hope is that these stories help spark understanding, confidence, and meaningful conversations.

for this girl... and kids that struggle like she did

Why I Wrote This Book

Designed With Different Learners in Mind

This book isn’t just about embracing different abilities, it’s built with them in mind.

Embracing Your Different Ability® is available in a dyslexia-friendly font edition as an option for readers who process words differently, along with a standard font edition. I wanted readers to have a choice, because accessibility looks different for everyone.

Small design choices can make a big difference. Offering multiple formats is one way to help more people feel supported, included, and confident as they read.

Because everyone deserves access to stories that meet them where they are.

P.S. I read the audio book using this font, and I love it!

Embracing Your Different Ability® is filled with stories, reflections, and practical tools designed to support kids, parents, educators, and advocates as they navigate learning, confidence, and self-advocacy.

Inside the book, you’ll discover:

Personal stories from my childhood and adulthood, shared honestly and vulnerably

Encouragement and tools to help kids (and adults) build confidence and self-advocate

Thoughtful worksheets and reflection prompts to spark meaningful conversations

Chapters written by my mom, sharing a parent’s perspective and support

Inspiration to see strengths where others see challenges and so much more!

A Parent’s Perspective

My mom, Lynn, contributed several chapters to Embracing Your Different Ability®, sharing the story from a parent’s perspective. Together, we offer both sides of the journey — what it’s like to grow up with a learning difference, and what it’s like to parent, advocate, learn, and grow alongside your child.

Her chapters add honesty, reassurance, and support for parents who are navigating questions, challenges, and moments of uncertainty — reminding them they are not alone, and they are doing better than they think.
